Top 5 Best Ways to Avoid Moving Company Scams
1) Locate and verify the moving company's operating license. All professional moving companies will be able to give you their U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) license and Motor Carrier number.
2) Find and verify addresses. Search the company's website for the address of their headquarters. If you can't find the address, ask for it and then search online to ensure it is a valid address.
3) Get an in-home estimate. In order to avoid 'low-ball pricing scams', be sure to get an in-home estimate. A mover must see the amount of items you need to move to give a reliable estimate.
4) Check references. Call the Better Business Bureau or the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) to check references.
5) Don't pay full amount up-front. Credible moving companies will not ask you to pay for the full moving costs up-front

A company called Corvus Law Group is mailing ads to Idaho homeowners inviting them to join scam lawsuits against their mortgage lenders, Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden warned. The ads look like government forms and claim homeowners can get large principal reductions or other monetary relief if they join the lawsuit.
"The scam is a pretext to collect an unlawful $5,000 upfront fee from homeowners," Wasden said in a press release. "The representations in the solicitations are false and are designed to prey on vulnerable homeowners. My office is currently investigating this company."

To get your property taxes reduced on the basis of the recent decline in market value:
1.Search Yahoo! or Google to find the Web site for your County Tax Assessor?s Office or Tax Collector?s Office.
2.Go to the Forms section and look for a form with the words ?reassessment request? or ?decline in market value.? If you can?t find it, give the office a ring and ask them to fax, mail or email the form to you.Usually the request will ask you for (a) an estimate of the current market value of your home, and (b) a list of recent, comparable sales in your neighborhood supporting that estimate of value.
